Congratulations to Douglasville Parks & Recreation's Gabby Whatley for being selected as a Next Gen Leader by the National Afterschool Association (NAA). In addition to receiving this high honor, Gabby has also received her CPRP certification.

The Certified Park and Recreation Professional (CPRP) certification is issued by the National Recreation and Park Association (NRPA). The NRPA is the leading organization that certifies professionals in the parks and recreation field. The CPRP credential is designed for individuals working in recreation, parks, and related fields to demonstrate their expertise and commitment to the profession.

The Next Gen Leader award recognizes young leaders in the out-of-school time field who have a proven passion for the development of themselves and others and who demonstrate persistence in their work to grow as leaders in afterschool.

Out of over 100 nominations, 28 emerging professionals 30 years of age and younger were selected for this year’s honor, including Gabby. The entire cohort will be recognized at NAA’s national 2025 Convention in Nashville in March. Additionally, they will be profiled in a feature story in the National AfterSchool Associations biannual magazine, AfterSchool Today. View a digital edition of the magazine starting in March.

Let’s give Gabby a round of applause for these well-deserved honors and for her ongoing commitment to our community!
